During the term the children will also receive spelling words. These words will be basic sight words, which your child will be seeing in his/her reading and writing activities. You can find these spelling words on the classroom blog.
Before school
This term we will be discussing how we can be organised. In Room 16 the children are encouraged to hang up their bags and put their book bags in the green bucket when they arrive at school themselves.
Library
Our library day is Wednesday. The children will bring home one or two library books each.  Please help them to remember to return them to school each Wednesday so they can choose different books to share with you at home.

Keeping Safe Around Dogs

'Gia' the Puppy comes to school

We have been learning how to keep safe around dogs.

Dogs can be heaps of fun but you also have to be really careful whether it is with a dog that you know really well or one that you are meeting for the first time.

These are some important things that we talked about:

1.    Check with the owner first before you approach or pat a dog.
2.    Let the dog sniff your fist.
3.    Pat the dog’s chin or chest –not the top of the dog’s head.

We also talked about puppy’s:

1.    Even with a puppy ask the owner
2.    Don’t go near a dog when they are eating
3.    Keep your face away from theirs –they don’t usually want to hurt you but they do have sharp teeth.

We also talked about what we do if we meet a scary dog:

·      Don’t run - just slowly turn and walk away
(Sometimes we might have to curl up like a turtle on the ground).

Mr Johnstone brought 'Gia' to school to meet the children in Room 16.

(Gia has brothers and sisters that are being trained as 'companion dogs' for children.)

Gia wasn't scared of the children and liked Room 16. We practiced saying hello to Gia.

Thanks Mr Johnstone for bringing Gia to school!
