What are we doing in maths? Measuring a tuatara enclosure...

We are learning about measuring.

W.A.L.T. use non-standard measurements.

We used string to see how tall we were. We made sure that we started our string on the floor.

We are seeing how many train carriages long Hussain measures.

W.A.L.T use metre rulers.

Ms Zandra Zunder (really Mrs Johnstone dressed up) needed our help to design a zoo. We were asked to measure out the space of a tuatara enclosure! A tuatara enclosure is 5 metres x 5 metres.
We decided that our string wouldn't work and we didn't have enough blocks. Hussain brought his measuring tape from home but it wasn't long enough so we decided to use some metre rulers. We used chalk to mark it out. We drew a line at every metre and then placed the next ruler so it started where the last one stopped!

This is the size of a tuatara enclosure!
