28th of June 2016 –A ‘Terrific Tuesday’

28th of June 2016 A ‘Terrific Tuesday’

“Hey Mum’s and Dad’s this is what we did today at school…”

Here we are on the mat in the morning.
We put up our hand when we want to speak…

Here we are with our ‘Maramataka’ (calendar). We are talking about the days of the week and the weather.

We take turns sharing our news with the class.

We use the orange chart at reading time. We have different activities everyday!

Calvin is reading books with the puppets.

Room 16 works very hard and so, at morning tea time, we feed our brains before we go outside and play.

After playtime, we come inside and do some ‘Brain Gym’. Here we are lying down and doing our ‘hook ups’.

At writing time we begin our stories with our picture. This helps us to plan what we are going to write about.

Today we learnt about ‘Dog Safety’. Amanda from the Hamilton City Council came in with her dog 'Scruffy'.

If a dog is angry, we stay still like a tree. Here we are practicing. We are also practicing making like a turtle for when a dog is really angry!

Today we learnt that before you pat a dog you must ask the owner.
If the owner says ‘yes’, then you make your hand a fist and let the dog sniff it. When the dog has sniffed you then you can pat it under its chin, on its chest or shoulder.

Thank you Amanda and Scruffy for coming in to Room 16.

After lunch we come inside and ‘super silent read’ a book from the classroom library.

That is just some of our day at school on a Tuesday!
