How can I help my child to be ready for school?

Welcome to 2016!

What an exciting year it is going to be!

I am Carmen Johnstone and I am looking forward to meeting the new children that will be starting in Room 16.

2016 will be a wonderful year of learning!

Often  I have parents and caregivers asking me what they can do to help their child to be ready for school. Here are some ideas (although I know that many of you are doing these already).

Encourage your child:
  •  to be independent
  •  to undress and dress themselves for swimming
  • to use the toilet and wash their hands independently
  • to unwrap and wrap their own food and open their drink bottles
  • to recognise their own name
  • to count and recognise numbers to 10
  • to know the letters of the alphabet
  • to talk to other friends and families about what school is about
