Sam and his farmyard friends

Room 16 loved the visit from the  'Farmyard friends'!
We met Louie the Pony, Nibbles, Charlotte, Polly, DeeDee, Tui and Pecky. We loved have a pony ride and we were gentle with the animals when we cuddled, patted and brushed them. Check out our photos!

Thank you Marion for bringing the 'Farmyard friends to Knighton School! We had fun!

CONSERVATION WEEK 12th -16th September

CONSERVATION WEEK 12-16th SEPTEMBER

It was CONSERVATION WEEK.
Richard Storey from NIWA came to into our class and showed us some rivers.
We learnt about healthy rivers and  unhealthy rivers.

We learnt that healthy rivers need trees to shade them.
Healthy rivers need insects for the fish and the blue ducks.

We learnt that there are not many blue ducks.

Richard showed us pictures of healthy rivers. He showed us water from a 'healthy river', an 'ok river' and an unhealthy river.

We used a microscope to look at the insects and creatures that were living in the healthy river.

Here are some baby
eels for us to look at.

Here we are learning how to measure how clean the water is.

Thank you RIchard for coming to our class. We learnt a lot about rivers.

Science is fun!
